Mystery Benefactor gives Lifesaving Boost to Mallacoota

Mallacoota Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) is the recipient of a most generous donation from a mystery benefactor known only as "James". "James" contacted the Surf Life Saving Foundation in Queensland to inform them that he wanted to donate $10,000 to any worthy lifesaving clubs from country regions.

The Foundation quickly got in touch with Life Saving Victoria who identified Mallacoota SLSC as a club who would most benefit from the donation. The club voluntary patrols between two beaches and has a seasonal professional lifeguard service supported by the council. There is no club house and the services are operated out of a caravan while equipment is stored at the local SES shed.

The club runs an offshore rescue boat - A 6 metre Rigid Inflatable which is used as a response vessel for people using the ocean and lakes in the area. With limited local funds the club had been struggling to operate and fuel the vessel which is seen as a vital service.
It is estimated the club requires $6,000 - $9,000 per year to operate the vessel.

Upon hearing this, "James" without hesitation increased his donation from $10,000 to $15,000 and Mallacoota has received the $9,000 it needs to continue performing its vital rescue service.

The other $6,000 went to Etty Bay Surf Life Saving Club in North Queensland which is still dealing with the devastation wrought by Cyclone Larry.

"James" has effectively been a lifesaver to two regional clubs at opposite ends of the east coast and it is benefactors like him, who keep lifesaving across the country, up and running year after year.
