Recent News Mystery Benefactor gives Lifesaving Boost to MallacootaMallacoota Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) is the recipient of a most generous donation from a mystery benefactor known only as "James". "James" contacted the Surf Life Saving Foundation in Queensland to inform them that he wanted to donate $10,000 to any worthy lifesaving clubs from country regions. The Foundation quickly got in touch with Life Saving Victoria who identified Mallacoota SLSC as a club who would most benefit from the donation.
The club voluntary patrols between two beaches and has a seasonal professional lifeguard service supported by the council. There is no club house and the services are operated out of a caravan while equipment is stored at the local SES shed. Upon hearing this, "James" without hesitation increased his donation from $10,000 to $15,000 and Mallacoota has received the $9,000 it needs to continue performing its vital rescue service. The other $6,000 went to Etty Bay Surf Life Saving Club in North Queensland which is still dealing with the devastation wrought by Cyclone Larry. "James" has effectively been a lifesaver to two regional clubs at opposite ends of the east coast and it is benefactors like him, who keep lifesaving across the country, up and running year after year.
